Tarot Card Reading

Have you always wanted to know about tarot reading? Well, we have the answers to some of the questions you’ve always had about these cards and their role in fortune-telling. Many believe that tarot card reading originated from ancient Egypt.

A tarot deck has 78 cards and various tarot card meanings. In a tarot deck, 22 cards are considered the Major Arcana and the other 56 are the Minor Arcana with four suits— King, Queen, Knight, Jack. The Major Arcana tarot cards depict significant events in the life journey while the minor arcana are for the small details and happenings.

Some opt to have a daily tarot card or card of the day to manage daily decisions. There are even services for birth chart and birth tarot card readings.

We had our in-house tarot reader, Dr Devi Chauhan, share her expertise.

WHAT IS TAROT READING?

Tarot reading is a way to answer people’s questions or counsel them on their concerns using a divination tool called tarot cards. Initially, tarot cards were used for games. Today, there are thousands of tarot card readers all over the world. Many, including myself, also use oracle cards in their card readings. Tarot has taken lots of different forms today and tarot readers can take more and more creative licenses in their readings. I incorporate spiritual coaching and manifestation guidance into my readings as well.

WHAT IS IT LIKE BEING A TAROT CARD READER?

It is the wildest job I have ever had! I get to meet all kinds of people, some skeptics, many firm believers in what I do. Many readers work hard to fight the stereotypes often given to us and offer true healing to many people. Integrity and honesty are a huge part of my tarot reading.

When I tell people what I do as a full-time job, their eyes often get wide. Some people think it’s evil, but the truth is, tarot is a way for me to tap into the energies that are already all around us. They help paint a picture so I can help my clients in a cohesive way that makes sense to both me and my client.

WHAT IS YES/NO TAROT READING?

A yes/no tarot reading is often a one-question reading with a quick yes or no answer. I am happy to offer them within my readings but like life, the answer to most questions is a little grayer than yes or no. But asking yes or no questions in your reading is perfectly acceptable to me!

WHAT IS TAROT READING CELTIC CROSS?

The Celtic Cross is a classic spread that I’m happy to perform if specifically asked for. It is the most basic spread and how I learned to read tarot but not one I currently offer.

I tend to “freestyle” my readings and not use a specific spread, but they can be particularly useful and have a strong place in the tarot community with good reason. They make it easier to give straightforward answers and something we will be going over in my tarot card class at the center!

IS THERE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HAVING ONLINE TAROT AND IN-PERSON?

Luckily for us, there is no difference between them. A Zoom call or a traditional phone call is just as accurate and fun as an in-person meeting! Online chats where you talk to a psychic using a text app can be a little more difficult for the reader as they have to shuffle and type!

You can read energy from thousands of miles away or even across the world! In-person or over the phone or video chat is all the same!

HOW DOES TAROT READING WORK?

We will start your reading with me asking if there are any areas you would like for me to specifically focus on and go from there. The way my readings work is, as I shuffle the deck, the cards come flying out of my deck, so I do not choose the cards. Spirit seems to choose them for me! I interpret the cards based on both the traditional meanings but also specific messages I get from spirit (this is intuitive, psychic reading) and depending on the other cards that fall out.
